The accommodation is set in a small village near La Petite-Pierre, Germany and La Route des Vins. There are restaurants in the near vicinity (French and traditional Alsatian cuisine), supermarket nearby and of course all the 'distractions' of Strasbourg at your doorstep. Germany is close by for day-trips into, for example, the Black Forest. Set in the Vosges National Park at the edge of a forest approximately 12 miles from Saverne and 2 miles from the fortress of Lichtenberg, this house is ideally situated for winter skiing and summer walking alike. The Alsatian area offers quaint villages with their charming half-timbered houses bedecked with geraniums and the people's exceptional hospitality and warmth. The inhabitants of this land between the Rhine area and the Vosges Park and mountains, which acts as a protective barrier, (Colmar for example boasts the lowest rainfall rate in France), have a sense of independence and freedom. It was a 'colmarian', Bartholdi, who designed the Statue of Liberty. Alsace is one of France's most prized regions for fine cuisine and wines. It has no fewer than 39 gastronomic restaurants selected by the Michelin guide. Alsatian cuisine, a subtle blend of the earthy traditional local dishes and the sophistication of its haute cuisine, has a long standing reputation. Favoured even by royalty, Louis the XIV called Alsace 'a wonderful garden' . Alsace offers infinite possibilities for hikers and mountain bike enthusiasts with over 8,000 miles of marked paths which weave through ever changing scenery. Downhill and cross country skiing, original forms of skiing, biathlon, ski-jumps, sleigh riding or tobogganing are all possible in the Vosges. You can go for an invigorating or relaxing ski at altitudes of between 600m to 1400m.
Accommodation:
Large detached house offers very comfortable accommodation for a maximum of 10 people. Stairs lead up to the living room which is furnished with armchairs and an open fireplace (wood provided). The front door leads to the hallway and through to the kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a breakfast corner. Cooking facilities include a sink, cooking hobs and oven, a refrigerator, dishwasher and washing machine. Large living room has a sofa and armchairs, a fireplace for burning wood (wood provided; there is also full central heating), a television and French windows leading outside to the terrace which is equipped with table and chairs for outside eating. The terrace also offers views of the Fortress of Lichtenberg. At the other end of the dining room is a dining table and chairs. There are five bedrooms, three with one double bed, one with a double bed and an infant’s bed and one with a single bed accommodating a total of 10 people. There is one separate shower room with toilet and a separate bathroom with toilet and a downstairs toilet. To the exterior of the house is a large garden and there is ample off-road parking to the side of the house.
